Subs ..

Postby pretenda » Mon Dec 17, 2007 3:22 pm

Hi All,

Dunno if this is gunna be the best place to ask, considering I am after sq over db ;) I am looking for a small(ish) sub to put in my is300 ...

I had a read through the other sub + amp post, but im after something a little smaller :)

I have been looking at the Pioneer TS-W2501D4, I have bought a stack of pioneer gear before (hu's, splits and subs), and have always been impressed. Anyone here got that model sub? Any thoughts?

I just want something to keep up with my stereo (around 85db or so)

Boy i miss my custom stereo in my camry :(

Cheers,
Matt

OK so my estimation of how loud my stereo goes was a bit wrong. It hits 98dB no worries.

I take it no one knows anything about this sub ;)

sounds systems is all depends on how loud u listen 2 ur music 2 find out...
98db is nothing if ur worried about being caught 4 ur music 2 loud..
ive won da doran pro street b comp dis yr in june...
subs come in different sizes but what u want is a small sub box not da sub...
yeh da depth of da sub u woulda have 2 have a look 4 as well if u want it really small..
but if ur not lookin 4 massive bass den jus throw a good quality 6x9 in da rear 4 a bit of bass n treble but not way over da top n it leaves heaps of space in da boot...

the Pioneer TS-W2501D4 is a decent sub by lookin at da specs i dun use pioneer no more though only HU but its not about da sub yeh u can have da strongest sub around but u need a powerfull amp 2 run it...
its got 800W RMS which is impressive by what dey say but u need a mono block 2 run it at da power... plus u need 2 tune it as well u can have da loudest sub amp combo but if its not set properly den sum1 wit a less xpensive brand can easily beat it if dey r tuned 2 da max...

Hey Raven,

Thanks for your replies! As far as worry about the cops, my last car was louder outside than this system will be. I already have an 8 speaker stereo in the lexus, it sounds really nice, it just needs a bit more meat down low :) new 6x9's just wont cut it for me, i have beautiful sound systems wherever I go [dad and i set up outdoor sound systems for gigs etc].

I generally listen to my stereo around 80dB or so .. depends on the song of course :) I need to pull a pre out for the amp, but it shouldn't be any issue. I will do the aux in mod while i am at it.

I think the TS-W2501D4 is going to be a fair bit of overkill for what I want, id love to have a listen to it. Anyone know of a car audio place that i can listen to a wide variety of different subs at?

Platinum are good - my car is usually perpetually parked there,

Pete loves me, so does Van, Petes the guy for stereo stuff,

But my honest opinion is that you should look at the Kicker shallow sub,

Mad sound, great power, small package, what more coudl you ask, plus IMHO opinion (and IO have everything in my car pioneer BTW) is that Kikcer subs and MTX aswell are the best value for money around, all the rest have about ten tenths more for 100 times the price,

When you want to look for a better sub, look at premo brands like Hertz Focal DD etc, but for price and function, yeah go check out the Castle Hill JB Hi Fi, and you will be impressed, BTW Lifestyle audio is pretty ordinary.

My 2 cents

Thanks man :) I will have a look at them too, i was under the impression that MTX was primarily aimed at just throwing out sound and not caring much for what it sounded like. Might check out some of them primo brands too :) thanks for your input!

Tbh if you are after pure SQ sub I havent heard anything better than the IDMAX.

For my system Im running 2 8" vibe exact8's but thats as I wanted decent sound while keeping as much boot space as possible ;)

Your mid range speakers are more what u 'feel' if thats more what ur after. What are you running up front?

Sound deadening will improve your speaker response a billion fold. Think about this way, hit a tin can, you get a nice big tinny sound. Add more mass to the metal (sound deadening) and you change the resonant frequency (and it'll sound better as it wont 'ring'). When you sound deadening ur doors you often try to fill up all the service holes to create a sealed area, this will also help you sound amazingly (word of advice use 3mm mdf with deadening on it if blocking off service hole so it can be removed easily if you need to get into the internals of the door).

Never been to lifestyle...where is it? sounds like a furniture joint :p

I saw it advertised in mags a few years back.. they sell heaps of different audio brands, but Ive never been there.

Doesnt surprise me that places have set up demo things to show ppl how well it works.
