Shane says NO to kits

Postby shano » Mon Oct 13, 2008 6:55 pm

hey everyone i have an S13 silvia. and it had a bodykit it scapped everywhere, some of you would remember the bbq thing at brenton's place a while back my front bar fell off just geting out of the driveway! anyway i'm a lil over the scarping so i decided to remove it ALL. front bar, skirts and rear.. all off! i wanted to keep the duck tail but that didn't look right on the car so it came off too. :(

and i must say my silvia looks so much hotter now!! will post pics soon to show the method of my madness.

i urge everyone now if you have a bodykit remove it!
say no to kits! Australia SHOULD say NO!

I like the stock S13 look too, theres too many badly kitted N/A autos getting around with bad exhausts that just puts me right off. Something subtle on the other hand...

IMHO kits need to have a purpose other than looking good. Like front air dams that provide greater cooling advantages at track days, spots for oil/power steering/transmission coolers etc, rear diffusers/front spoiler/rear spoiler for high speed stability (i could use some of this) again at the track. Most of these wild swoopy sharply angled kits look great in magazines with touch ups but often fail to live up to the hype when it comes to day in day out use. There is time and place for kits. If the car doesn't stand to make a mechanical benefit from it, then you don't need it.
Kits that seek to dramatically alter the look of the original body style (ie the 'C-West' round style on the boxy 89-91 Corolla hatch) should be banned, if you want to change the look, old school it and take to the sheet metal before considering fibreglass. I think we could all learn a little from the hot rod brigade on this one.

My 2c.
